Close-up of a deteriorated plug which is a boat-shaped mold on top of which layers of fiberglass are laminated when building a hull. The plug is built of plywood, then covered with thickened epoxy and sanded to achieve a fare shape. The plug had been used to lay up many hulls, then stored outdoors covered with a blue tarp. After many years the tarp has disintegrated, leaving remnant strands and exposing the plug to the weather leaving the cross hatched pattern you see. At Greene Marine in Yarmouth, Maine.
